Summer is heating up. With the lifting of the stay-at-home restrictions, we’re all ready to jump back into dating, but the last few months of quarantine might have a few of us out of the game. Well, it’s time to suit up and jump right back in. We’ve partnered with BLK the largest dating app for Black singles, to bring you a list of Black-owned businesses that are going to get you ready for date night. Over the next few weeks, we’re going to give you a brand new list to tackle all areas of date prep. Last week, we shared Black-owned salons and barbershops that are currently taking appointments. This week, we’re giving you a list of Black-owned clothing and fragrance stores so you can look, smell, and feel good.
Black-Owned Clothing Brands For Women
Hanifa Clothing was founded in 2012 by Anifa Mvuemba. Her curve-flattering designs push women to live without limits through bold colors and textures.
Designer Carly Cushnie established her luxury women’s ready-to-wear brand in 2008. The brand currently has a limited-edition dress collection available at Target.
Founded by Nigerian/Austrian immigrant Larissa Muehleder, her eponymous brand is instantly recognizable through her neoprene designs. The inventive designs of this New York-based brand fit well into the fashion capital of the world.
This lingerie and hosiery brand, founded by Ade Hassan, is introducing Black women to their true nude. Deciding it was time for a different kind of nude, Hassan carefully curated collections of skin-tone shades that cover the spectrum for women of color.
Launched in 2018, founders Vera Moore and Nate Johnson created their intimates brand that celebrates black women, black entrepreneurship, and black cultural influence.
Black-Owned Clothing Brands For Men
The luxury men’s footwear and accessories brand fuse founder Armando Cabral’s classic approach to fashion with modern elegance and sophistication.
While attending Parsons School for Design, Whitney Michel created her brand that specializes in luxury men’s goods that include fine cashmere and silk ties.
Founded by Waraire Boswell, the brand is a combination of casual and classy. While his collections feature designs for both genders, his bespoke men’s suiting is the true standout.
Kerby-Jean Raymond founded Pyer Moss in 2013 to speak to both Black heritage and activism. The brand currently has a collection with Reebok that includes outerwear and activewear for men and women.
The eco-friendly lifestyle brand was founded by Patrick Robinson. They are recognized for their comfortable and sustainable collections that include blazers, polos, and trousers for men.
Le Bijoux Parfum
Adeline Dorsainvil founded her fragrance line to speak to every type of personality. With Swarovski crystals infused into every perfume bottle, every woman will feel the luxury while getting ready for date night.
Model Chris Collins set out to tell a story when he founded his cologne brand. Inspired by 1910s Paris and 1920s Harlem, his fragrances bring the culture and history to life.
Inspired by her West African and Swedish heritage, Maya Njie founded her perfume brand based out of London. Her brand focuses on genderless scents ideal for both men and women.
Founded by Shawn Crenshaw, Fadelf Jackson, and Cecil Cross, this luxury men’s fragrance brand was created to celebrate men of color. With popular scents that have hints of cashmere wood, bergamot, and cardamom, its wearer will smell truly remarkable.
