Black Girls Sew™ is committed to having a positive impact on the lives of girls and young women through education in sewing, design and entrepreneurship. With over 15 years experience as a successful designer and stylist with an impressive client list, Black Girls Sew™ is Hekima Hapa’s vision for a non-profit organization focused on teaching fundamental life skills such as creativity and resourcefulness through the design process. The mission of Black Girls Sew™ is to give women and girls the tools they need to create a more fashionable future.
WHAT WE DO
Black Girls Sew™ offers classes, workshops and summer camps to teach sewing and design skills to students of all ages and levels of experience. Sew Green™ is a series of eco-friendly workshops for adults. The Sew Green Mini Fashion Camp™ is a 2-week summer camp for children ages 10 to 17 with an interest in fashion and sewing but little to no exposure to the industry. The aim of the sewing camp is to encourage girls of color to participate in fashion from the vantage point of the entrepreneur and to see skills such as sewing and jewelry making as opportunities to develop a small business and earn income from their unique and original creations.
