Have you ever noticed how quiet people become when the topic of race comes up? Have you ever been in a situation where you’ve had to ask yourself, “Was that racist?”? Black Blocks is a card game that uses the power of laughter and short-storytelling to start deeper conversations about the subjects we tend to avoid most. Black Blocks shines a spotlight on the subtly racist elephant in the room, and invites you to join in on the conversation.
Taking something as broad as “racism” and narrowing it down to body parts is a good way to see how laughable racial prejudices can be. Nearly every part of the Black body has a social stigma attached to it– from the texture of one’s hair to the size of one’s ‘booty’. I have become fascinated with the versatility, power, and mystery behind the Black body. More specifically– its affect on other people. The curiosity, the fear, the intrigue, the mistrust. Black Blocks is a game that acknowledges the countless racial micro-aggressions Black people in America face on a daily basis.
We know Black Blocks will change America. We believe this game is the perfect medium through which to discuss race in the U.S. It’s the perfect way to open up and have deeper conversations with the people in your social and professional circles.
In a society that believes “COLORBLINDNESS” is the key to a world free from racism… We invite you to play the “RACE CARD.”
